optamists see the glass as half full, pessamists see the glass as half empty.
the pessamist gives value to the negative space; to the unseen, the absence of substance.
the optamist gives value to the seen substance; what can be tasted, touched, and otherwise verified with their senses.
half the glass is full, the other half is empty.
so why do pessamists get a bad rap for giving the other side of the picture?
without the negative spaces, half the image is missing. one cannot fully appreciate substance until one understands it's absence.
